 Jade story:Fortune Sticks Fortune Sticks Fortune Sticks are one of the oldest Chinese custom known forms of divination. When people facing their own problem in career, marriage, money, education, or other aspects etc. would seek answer by burning incense in a temple where they would also shake the wooden container holding a bunch (100 pieces) of numbered fortune sticks inscribed with various sayings. When shaking, people need to murmur auspicious wording repetitively until one stick would fall to the ground. As the meaning of sayings from the falling sticks are fuzzy, people would usually find a temple soothsayer to interpret its implications and the soothsayer would provide them with guidance in soling the problem. Even today, many Hong Kong people still visit soothsayers for guidance in their daily lives.
